Happy Thanksgiving evenly I am not a big fan of it

This just my opinion. We should give thanks every day not once a year. Just in case I am not a church person. Second why a lot us citizens in many parts of the world eats like pigs in Haiti or Somalia kid are are being kill due to hunger crisis. I am not saying that we don't celebrate I am just saying that have in perspective while you eat like pigs. Having said that enjoy the dinner or lunch and be thankful that you can eat while others eat dirt.

A lot of people have asking what I am doing and when I said nothing their reaction is a shock one. Well my family is at PR, have cousins in NJ and Miami, my gf is out of town, many of my friends too. So I just going to celebrated my way cooking some chicken, and doing a thank you bike ride and a thank you run for the fun of it. What better way to celebrate a thank you day doing 2 out of 3 things that you enjoy. I won't be swimming but who knows over the weekend maybe. Hope all the great people that I chat and know through the blogging community have a great thanksgiving and enjoy the meal.

Happy Thanksgiving

Cold training weekend

Yes I train this weekend... not a lot but I did something. On Friday I went to the gym and did a decent work out of almost 2 hours... On Saturday after a buying some stuff with my GF I went out on the 35 degrees with a wind chill of 27 for a 4.3 mile run in 41 minutes. My first run since the marathon 3 weeks ago. On Sunday I went to bike, yes in the cold 39 degrees, for a nice 25 miles and after that watch the MLS cup final were Columbus Crew with one of my favorite players el guille (Guillermo Barros Scheloto) won the MVP (already league MVP) with 3 assists. Then some cooking for the week. That was all my weekend.
On a site note I never talk here about products but I am making an exception. I bought the Under Armour cold gear compression long sleeve shirt. It does work I ran and bike with it over the weekend and it does work It keep me warm. And for me to said that is hard because I am not use to th cold. I know is expensive but it does work.
May be I come back with a crazy post later today but maybe just stay tuned around 3 or 4

Friday, cold weekend

Its Friday and its a cold and it going to be a cold weekend.
In better new my cell phone is back. A good person turn in it the bus driver and I asked the bus driver yesterday about it and he had it. So at least there good people around here.
About training not much. Hopefully the weekend works better.
Probably a run and the gym and lots of movie because is freezing in here.
Setup the 2009 season is on the making I am just waiting a few more things to click.
Good luck to the Rainmaker in the Philadelphia Marathon in his quest of at least breaking 3 hours. He will be in lows 2:50.
Also good luck to the dctriclub members doing Ironman Arizona.

On a side note you don't think its time for the CEO's of this companies that are in trouble start dropping privet jets and all their luxury and start living like regular people. May be if their cuts their salaries in 1/2 or 3/4 and theri reduce their style of living that might help the companies.

Happy Friday

R.I.P. from 2005 - 2008

Yesterday while I was heading back home in my usual spot at the bus and after I talked to my GF my cell and me decided to go separate way. Instead or falling in to my bag big pocket the cell decided to roll around between the gloves, the hat my coat and don't make any noise or sound so it can disappear. When I found it has disappear I was sad because had lost like a friend a piece of a equipment that has hang out with me. Yes I know the phone and the numbers but I had backup list so I have the number from the last 10 years so If you gave me you # 8 month ago is possible that I don't have it other than that I do have it. The part here is the sentimental part of it. I know it was piece of chunk because it was old but you know. for this incident I didn't ran yesterday Let see what happens today because I do need a new phone

Weekend recap

I went to NY on Saturday to do a little Christmas shopping and visit some museum. The trip was great. We took the 6 am bus were there around 11. By that time the rain disappear and had a great weather, 70 degrees and sun until 7 that we left. A few notes from my time there.
The Sojo district is really nice and $$$$$$
The Addidas store is way much better than Nike town. Have more variety in running cycling soccer and shoes. It was awesome.
If you want to attract people on to you store put a guy model in jeans with out shirt at 5 pm in the door at your 5th avenue store and see how may people just came in it was amazing. Thats good marketing
NY makes every other city look small.
By all the walking I re injured lower peroneus muscle it was cramping at the end of the day.
We came back at 1 am on Saturday night.
On Sunday I wake up at 11 I was tired and sore from the day it was extremely cold and windy. I try to bike but when the wind is blowing 20 miles with gust of 35 on your face and your next bike race is 6 month away you just said forget it. I biked 10 minutes and return home. I did some stretching and cook for the day and the week.
Well that was the weekend I am back to running this week in preparation for the Jingle all the way 10k race that by the way is feature in the December edition of Runners World as must do Christmas race.
Hope everybody have a great week.

Weekend cold rainy weekend

Yes the weekend looks like the title so I guess I ll be doing a lot of indoor training. Tonight a gym session and a 30 - to 40 minutes at the trainer. On Saturday I ll be heading to NY to do a little bit of Christmas shopping and visit some museums with my GF. On Sunday the plan is to bike out side if the cold let me because is going to be only 50 and windy so thats going to be hard. On Wednesday I decided to begin planning the 2009 season and to work on my liabilities this off-season. So the plan is something like this swim and run 1-2 time a week each one. Bike 4 times a week including at least 1 long run on the weekend even if is it cold. (Read 3rd sentence). Hit the gym 3-4 times a week because my body need and I am really weak right now. I forgot how bit up the someone is after a Marathon. And last but no the least stretch, stretch, stretch. I am not too flexible so I have to improve on this. So the goal is to stretch at least once a day. I am going to track my progress here beginning on Monday. Feel free to leave comment and remind me that I have to stretch and bike.
Thats all for now have a great weekend

Running Green

Today post is from the Runers lounge , running green. Sims like that is cool theme lately as last month Runners World and this month Triathlete Magazine have great articles on how races and the industry is trying to go green. For me I always have been green with out trying. I always have lived less than a mile from a track. When live with my parents, when I went to University for BS and for my Master the the same. When I began doing my Master in Urban Planning, I became more conscious about this and I have make more adjustment on trying to be more green. In the last 2 years that I have been living in North VA I think I am greener than ever. I don't own a car and own 3 bikes. I use public transportation (Metro and Bus) for almost everything. I live 4 blocks or 5 minutes from a local track , and pool so I walk or run to both of them evenly if it 35 degrees. I begin my long bike rides from my place and go on a a local trail most of the time. So in the training part I think I am doing my part. In terms of product consumption I try to drink more accelerade than gels so I don't have to throw away the plastics bags. In terms of shoes I have gave my last 3 pairs of running shoes to my local store for recycling. The things I need to improve is on more recycling as I don't do much on that aspect due to the lack of time and thinking what should be recycle and what is not. I also for next season I am going to try carpool for races and do near races ... well I did that last season so continue on it. Other than that I thing I am doing my part.

Happy Thursday

Not much going

Yesterday was a holly day so not much happened. As the days are shorts and colds is really hard for me to get me going. So no training for me yesterday. Other than that I am already starting to plan my 2009 season looking for some races and try to get better at my times. Basically my main goal for next year is going to be improve. I really want improve shave 1 or 2 minutes of my swims and runs and shave 5- 10 on my bike. So I am doing a lot of research on racing and training. Other than that not much going.
Happy Wednesday

Weekend report

This weekend I didn't train I just eat a lot of junk, play the W ii and clean my apt. On Friday I took a well deserve leg massage to uptight my legs. This was great for my legs and I and I made the commitment with my self of improving my flexibility during the off season or winter. My girlfriend is going to help me on this. On Saturday I went grocery shopping because my kitchen was empty. After I went to check some running and bikes store for the winter training. That night I spend 4 hours playing the Nintendo Wii at my girlfriends house. Warning don't buy this because is addicting thats the reason I haven't buy it. On Sunday my girlfriend ran a local 5k in an awesome time with 22:39. Is great because she haven't been training much do to her studies. She finished 1st on her age group. As she ran I was full of energy so I decided to do a massive cleaning of my apt. I spend 3 hours cleaning and my girlfriend said it was shinning. Today I begin planning for next year in all aspects of my life.
Are you enjoying the Christmas season? I am, I have eaten a lot of Christmas candy's and eggnog. Thats junk so I have gain like 2 pounds so I better watch out because is not Christmas jet.

Running Through Transitions

This theme is from the runners lounge. For me running through transitions haven't been hard. For me have been how to stick transition in to training. I have been running for 8 years now and doing triathlon full time 2. When I transition in to a new stage I manage to run / train at any time. Basically is up for to have the will to stick it in any part of the day. For the dark day find a place that is really illuminated like a park and circle around. Running through transition is always hard is not easy but if you have mental toughness and a good planning.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

In other stuff I am resting with a lot of free time for the first time in many months. I am watching a lot of futbol and the basketball season is just starting so thats entertaining.

NYC Maraton report

The day started at 4:30 in the mourning. Since it was daylight saving time I didn’t felt that tier when I wake up. Eat my usual breakfast and got dressed with warm cloth (not enough) and headed to the subway. The bus stop to go Staten Island was only 2 stops so I arrived really quickly. The bus line wasn’t long and it was quick. At 5:30 I was already on the bus heading to Staten Island. It was dark. Around 6:00 I was walking to the fort. It was cold. The temp was said to be in the 40 but with wind at least it felt like 30. The wait was for a long 3 hours and 30 minutes. It was like a first of 2 marathons. During that time I met 3 great triathletes from Chile that were running the race. We share great stories and suffer the cold together. Then finally the time had come to leave and get in to our corral. The wave system worked great I was in the blue start wave 1 corral F. I hang out with one of the triathlete on the corral. We planned to race together. Then they move us to the start that was extremely cold because of the cold wind passing through the buses and hitting straight on the legs. We were waiting behind some buses and trucks so your upper body was cover but your legs were hit by the cold winds. At 9:43 the gun sounded and it took me 2 minutes to hit the start mat. When I started running my legs were so cold that I couldn’t get going. It took me 1 mile to warm up. My friend from Chile was gone because I couldn’t stay with him because of the cold. I passed the 1st mile and I was rolling for the first 14 miles. I was feeling great going on pace and with out suffering. On mile 14 my quads were hurting just a little bit. But when I hit the mile 15th hill it help me because of I am a good hill runner and the pain was gone. I continue to roll. On mile 17th I had a quick stop to say hello to my girl friend and drink Accelerade. After that I continue rolling until mile 21 right after the Bronx bridge my quads exploded and I try to continue and couldn’t. I took out of my pocket my Bengay cream and spread it through my legs. I continue to go running between 9:30 and 9:50 all the way. Mile 23 is really long and hilly. Is not that hard but is long. After I passed this I knew I was there only need to hold the pain and continue. Mile 25 - 26.2 was just the fun part enjoying the crowd that you know that you are there. When I saw the finish line I just stopped to cross the line walking and enjoying the moment that’s why it took me 5 second to cross. My final time 3:43:05 and this was a PR. My last marathon was NY 5 years ago and it was 3:55:56. I was really happy. The crowds are amazing. You don’t run alone at all basically only on the bridges is the only part.
The only concerns of the race are the wait in Staten Island is just another marathon. The other thing is the extreme walk that you have to do when you finish to get the race pack with your cloth is really long like a 1½ mile walk.
Special mention to my girlfriend for all her support.
If you like to PR this is not the race but if you want to race the best marathon in the world this is the race or like the brand new book says A Race Like No Other: 26.2 Miles Through the Streets of New York

Special thanks to this Bloggers for their support.Rainmaker, Shannon, Trit, Rubi.
