Yesterday I went to a bike fit in preparation for my 1/2 iron man next weekend. They measure me, cheeked my flexibility and evaluate my current position. Conclusions I am inflexible or tight in half of my body but specially in my hips area and abductor. In proportion to my body my hamstring are short. This detail was affecting my bike position specially in the back. So after a lot of evaluation They raise my sit raise my aereobars and move my pedals a little bit to the front. At the end a brand new position and a lot of specific stretching exercises for my trouble areas. After the fit I went for a 20 mile bike ride to see the difference and it was huge. I felt better and I ride faster. The recommendation was to ride as much as possible this weekend so I can get use to the new position.
Today I went for 14 mile run at 10 in the mourning so i can deal with the heat next weekend in the run leg of the 1/2. Later I will be heading to the pool.
Enjoy your weekend

50/50 book bike fiting
I earlier today I finished reading Dean Karnazes new book 50/50: Secrets I Learned Running 50 Marathons in 50 Days -- and How You Too Can Achieve Super Endurance! And is simply great, inspiring informative exciting and for really special since I follow his trip on his blog back in 2006. If you are an ultra runner a normal runner or rookie runner you should read it its great.

In other my A race of the year is coming up in just 10 day patriot’s ½ iron distance. So this weekend is the final long runs in preparation for it. So ill be busy training. I also have started to wake up earlier and train more in the mornings so that my body is fully awake on race day. Yesterday I attend a bike fitting clinic at DC. It was a great I learn a lot about cycling and cycling position and performance and how scientific the approach have become. It was really interesting and me and since I come from analytical background with numbers I really was understanding all the concepts. I decided to go back tomorrow and revised my positioning on the bike with them.
Today the phenom will speak so be ready to listen him in front of probably 80000
Enjoy

The Olympics are gone.. Now what ???
The Olympics are gone. After 16 days of watching volleyball, track, swimming, Basketball and so on. And dream about how hot the athletes are or look, what some body should do next. Well 8 years ago after watching the Sydney games I gave a chance to running. I was already sign for the NYC Marathon that year as a commitment for well I don’t know or do not remember. I just started training one day on May or June with my mom and her running group. All of them were experience runners of many marathon and years. The thing was that they asked me are you too running the marathon and I said sure why not and my mom said are you sure you want to run? Well I gave it a try. I had run a 2 or 3 10k’s that year so I thought that why not try the big thing. So I began following the training but that’s for another post. After watching that 2000 Sydney Olympic marathon and listening to Bob Costas inspiring words about what the marathon means I became inspire, more serious and focus about running.
So if you enjoy watching the Olympics why in stead of being sad that the Olympics are over why you don’t start practice again your favorite sport in a serious way. I am not saying to become a pro but just practice. I am not saying that go and run a marathon but a 5 k sounds better. The feel of satisfaction of achieving that would make you fee like a proud Olympian.

Annpolis 10 miler
Annapolis 10 miler

Yes the Olympic kept me busy the last week so I didn’t post anything.
Yesterday I participated in the Annapolis 10 miler. I did this race last year so I knew what to expect. My goal for this race was to average 8:00 minute mile pace for the entire race in preparation for the NYC Marathon in November. This was a practice pace race if I can call it like that.

one of the many hills
The race went ok I warm up good 20 minutes and went in the front for the start. The first 2 miles went well as I planned with 15:57. The next 2 miles went 16:56. But mile 5 & 6 then I noticed that the mile marker where not spot on the places they should be. I got a time of 15:08 in what should be 2 hilly miles. Then Miles 7 & 8 were longer and both of them are down hill and I posted a time 17:08. So mile markers mess me up a little bit. Mile 9 and 10 also are kind of screw because mile 9 is a little bit ahead so when I cheeked its said 8:00 so I said I am in time just keep the pace. But the last mile seem longer than usual and ended up posting 8:30 on the last mile. So my total time was 1:20:30, 28 seconds faster than last year. This was good practice to pace my self by mile markers in preparation for Patriots ½ ironman & NYC Marathon in November.

At the beginning of the race

Conquering one of the final hills
This 10 miler is great and I recommend everybody to do it at least once. The best thing is that they don’t give you a medal. They give you a nice long sleeve athletic jacket. Pics coming later today.

Luray report
Friday: arrive to Luray in like 2 hours go and get the packet pick up and drive quickly to the campsite to set up everything. Prepare some food and everything for the race the next mourning. Went to be early but the kids screaming around the tent does not allowed to get some sleep. After the kids shout up an unexpected cold of 40 degrees appear and was really hard to sleep due to the fact that we were not prepare for that cold. So the sleep for the night was hard.
Saturday: wake up at 5:30 with out not much sleep to the cold. Drive to the race site and set up everything we were just in time
Lake were the swim take place

Swim: Started at in the wave start so mine was the first good. It was wetsuit aloud. It was really foggy on the lake so couldn’t see where you are swimming. It was 2 loop and wasn’t that crowded. I was in shock when I came out of the water with a time of 22:22. The jog to the mat was a 40 second ahead for an official time of 27:02. This was my fastest time ever so I believe that the distance was short by 100 meter
Bike: I t was a hilly course from the beginning. I was feeling ok. Bu the after some inclines my legs were not there and maybe the fogginess on some parts of the bike at the beginning also had to do with it. The visibility was 5 feet ahead of me so may be that affect me but no excuses. I just manage to survive. A lot of people pass me and I could catch some of them on few flat parts. It s a challenging course of 25.5 miles or 26.
Time 1:30:20
This how some parts of the bike look like due to the Fog

Run: Since I knew I was already bad in the bike I decide just cruise on the run so I can continue my training the next day. The course was hilly and challenging 10k.
Time 49:00

Overall time 2:52: 17. Almost last in my age group.
Summary it was a great race, REALLY BEAUTIFUL place to held it. Definitely will do it again but more prepare for the bike part.
After the race: I ate like 4 slices of pizza 2 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and a lot of water. Later we went to a 1$ store and bought as many ship blankets as possible so the cold couldn’t affect us the next night.
Saturday night. Set up everything for the Sprint race of my girl friend the next day. Prepare for the cold and eat some hot dogs and watch a bear and some other animals.
Sunday: leave the camp site and watch my girl friend crush the sprint triathlon.
Congratulations to my girl friend that finished 4th in her age group ( because they say She was drafting) had the15th time bike split with all the women. The bike training is helping her but not me

1st Olympic week
We have witness one of the greatest athletics performance of all time. Michel Phelps did something amazing. Out of this world. Simply amazing. But not just Phelps the Jamaican Usain Bolt just crushes 100 meters less than 9.70 seconds. It was amazing. The women marathons I won’t comment it because I haven’t see it. But I always have been a fan of Constantina Tomescu she have been around a long time and always in the top 5 finishes in most major marathons like NY Chicago Boston. So congratulations to her. My favorite was Paula Radcliffe but she was injured so manage just to finish. The women Triathlon last night was simply amazing. The coverage just was great and with out any commentators even better. The Emma Snowsill performance on the run was just simply amazing. The swim part was great to watch all the swimmer together up close and analyze their technique. The placing was Emma Snowsill, Vanessa Fernandez, Emma Moffatt in that order. Congratulations to Luara Bennet she had a great performance she just couldn’t hang on the run.
The Olympics have been great. Keep in mind that this week are the most of the major team sports.
Tonight is the men’s triathlon watch it.
Tomorrow Brazil and Argentina on soccer plays on the semifinal. This is going to be the most watched team game in the world so if you have a chance to watch it do it doesn’t miss it. I am picking Argentina to win in a really close game.
Also as a super volleyball fan the semifinals on beach volleyball are to night so watch them too.
About my race I will try to post a full report with pic!!!! Tonight or tomorrow.
I read an article on the local newspaper about a girl viewer complaining about men in beach volley ball not playing in Speedos as compare with the girl that are playing with bikinis. My response to that is that this is a market sport and I don’t think brands will sell Speedos as well as baggie shorts. An many of the do wear Speedos under their baggie shorts. It’s about marketing not about what to wear.

Luray Olympic distance race
This weekend I am racing at Luray VA. This race is a tune up race for my ½ iron man distance in 3 weeks. So I have low expectations. The swim is on a lake and apparently it will be wetsuit because on mild temperature that hit the region the last few days. So if it wetsuit aloud I would like to swim under 30 minutes the 1500. If not a second lower than NJ tri. The bike is my weakest leg and the course is hilly and I am not a good climber either. So between 1:19 and 1:25 I’ll be extremely happy. The run is a 10 k. So just going faster than NJ will be ok. Less than 48 will be great.
My girl friend and I will be camping on the area so it should be a fun weekend.
As for the Olympics of course I am watching. As for the China’s gymnastic team they look young. But they beat the US period the better team won. Tonight the USA faces Bulgaria on NBC at 9. I f you look for a great volleyball game watch that game tonight.
Track & Field begins tomorrow and Phelps quest for perfection continues tonight.
Enjoy your weekend.

The 35th sports of the Olympics

Sex has become the unofficial sport of the Beijing 2008 Olympics after 100,000 condoms were handed out to athletes.
The condoms are being given away in the Olympic Village. There are 10,500 athletes so they could have nine condoms each - if having sex with other competitors this would mean they are able to have it away 18 times during the competition - lets hope they still get time to compete.
Free condoms have been offered to athletes in the games since Barcelona in 1992
Here are some stats from Sydney and Greece
In Athens
Countries: 199
Officials: 3,000
Athletes: 10,500
Durex: 130,000
As the official supplier of condoms and lubricants, we hope the donation will help athletes improve their achievements between the sheets," says one Durex mouthpiece.
If you ask the athletes and look at the history (previous Games have run short long before the Closing Ceremony), this supply probably won't be enough. In fact, we find the math just plain confusing. The reports from Sydney were that each athlete got 51 cloaks upon arrival at the village, which was far from enough. But maybe Durex expects Greece to be less, umm, exciting -- 130K works out to only 12 condoms per competitor.
(We think someone did some bad division in one newspaper article about Sydney, and that number just appeared everywhere, unchecked. At the start of the Games, there was talk of a supply of 50,000 condoms, which works out to about five per athlete.)
In any case ...
"There's a lot of sex going on," javelin thrower Breaux Greer told Men's Journal. "You get a lot of people who are in shape and, you know, testosterone's up and everybody's attracted to everybody."
Other fun nuggets, courtesy of Men's Journal, which conducted a survey of sorts: Swimmers do it longer; the French do it most often (but only with compatriots).
In Sydney, the Cubans ... well, they ran through their ration faster than any other nation.
"I don't know what they're doing with those things," said one official. "Maybe they're making water balloons. They're lovely, lovely people. They're very friendly."
So let them have fun after all they deserve it after months maybe years of scarifice and hard work…
After all any guy wouldn’t mind to hook up with a beach volleyball, field hokey, volleyball, diving, swimming, soccer athlete from Brazil Australia, US, Sweden Argentina.
Or for the girls they wouldn’t mind hooking up with a swimmer beach volleyball soccer athlete.
Let the fun begins

Weekend and Olympics
After a great training weekend and of course the Olympics the week has began with more training and work.
The weekend training consisted of Friday watch the Olympics opening ceremonies (recorded) in the trainer. At night I started watching the cycling competition. Saturday mourning I went for a 13 mile run the hang out with some friends from the DC tri club at a BBQ. Went home took a nap and swam 2800 mts at the pool. On Sunday watch the Olympics early and then went to bike ride to skyline drive and put 32 miles. This training was for my up coming race this weekend at the Luray Olympic distance tri. Its hilly on the bike and I am not good hill climber. After the climb I went to my girlfriend house and helped her mom do the front yard by cutting the butches. After this modified training I was ready for some pizza and beer. Yesterday I went for 2600 mts of swimming and short but hard 2 mile run. As for the rest of the week my training will be “lighter” as I get ready for Luray on Saturday.
The Olympics are amazing what Michael Phelps is doing it just out of this world, the relay, the records it just great. Enjoy it why it’s last. In other sports the cycling competition was good and was amazing how to watch the city of Beijing from the sky. The video quality of NBC it’s really good. Well that the only good thing bout them. Because the commentators are bad. The volleyball competition on both sexes is at high a level if you have the chance to watch it you should. The same for beach volleyball, soccer and basketball. Track & Field begins on Friday
Peace between Georgia and Russia.

Olyimpics are here
The Olympics are here. I will be spending a lot of time on the computer watching the games. I like to watch the games life so I have the feeling that I am going to be waking up at 6 am a lot of time to se what I can catch. Tonight around 10 the cycling competition will be broadcasted life. On NBC.com or any major European station so have the stream channels ready.
My training this week have been hard in preparation for my last 2 triathlons of the season yes I have decided that after September 6 ½ iron distance my tri season is over to focus NYC Marathon. So I have been training really hard the last 2 weeks and the next 3 so I can get to that ½ iron man in great shape.
On Monday I bike and went to the gym.
Tuesday 6 miles in the hills
Wed swim 2000 mts and bike 20 miles.
Thursday run 9 miles 8 @ tempo pace and then bike 20 minutes to cool down
Friday I will swim 2500 mts and bike 25 miles
Saturday I will run 13 miles and swim between 3000 – 4000 mts
Sunday go and bike the hills of sky line drive. Between 60 and 70 miles
This sound like a great plan for the weekend.
So enjoy the weekend and the Olympics.

The Olympics rings
Fun run? Noooot
Yesterday I needed to run at least 6 miles and my plan was to run slow. I went to a fun run, sponsor by a store near my home. The people were really cool. But once their started it felt like a race. Everyone went out really hard. So I was supposed to run slow I got caught in the hard pace and as soon as I noticed it I slow down. But doesn’t matter were I have done fun races the stat is always like a race. I mean were of the fun part go. Fun run are meant to be that fun.
As for training today I will have a long session of swimming and biking. Will see how its goes.
Just the Olympics have started with the soccer.
Hopefully at the end of the ceremony in 20 days I don’t want to hear COI president saying this are the greatest games of all time because for the pollution they shouldn’t be

Olympics and $$$$
The Olympics are here. The next 18 days are going to be great. Yes 18 because soccer begins on Wednesday. For a big sports fan Junkie like me its great. I am going to be following the swim, Track & Field, Triathlon, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Basketball, Gymnastics and what every I found interesting like may be badminton or amateur wrestling or judo who knows.
But what Olympics have become. It a private enterprise that go country by country looking for who offer more money so they can host their game so basically the selection is not poor any more. And don’t forget about the big corporation money like NBC, Pepsi and Visa who owns part of the cake. That’s why many of the international Olympic Committee (COI) delegates are bank presidents and people owners of the capital. So basically this people haven’t played a single sport in their live are the one that control them. So the Olympics are about $$$$$ not any more about pride and representing their country.
As for my weekend it was training weekend. Friday I swam 3500 meters bike 27 miles Saturday I ran 12 miles and went to the mall with my girl friend. The mall is the hardest training for me. Sunday I bike 60.5 miles in the flat but against the wind.
This week also it’s going to be tough. So ill post on how thing goes
